Villa Terlina is a 7 hectare estate in the hilly area south-east of Agliano Terme in the heart of Piedmont. The top soil is a marly-calcium rich layer above a gypsum-rock base creating a distinct minerality in all of the wines. The structure of the land creates an excellent water balance, which also contributes to the uniqueness of Villa Terlina's wines: well-structured, mineral, elegant and with a wide range of flavors and aromas. Villa Terlina practices strict adherence to ecologically sound agriculture. The vineyard is pesticide-free and the grapes are biodynamically grown.
Winemaker Paolo Alliata received his degree in Agricultural Sciences, followed by specialization courses in wine in Bordeaux and Beaune. He gained experience working in Tuscany, Germany and France as a winemaker. In St. Emilion he had the opportunity to make a long stage by Canon-La-Gaffelière working with a fantastic team and gaining extensive experience in using barriques.
In 1997 Paolo bought the Villa Terlina and began to make his own wine. Since 2008 he has been working with biodynamic methods; using herbal-teas (horsetail, nettle) against mildew and spraying Preparation 500 on the soil to improve the humus synthesis. Paolo seeds clover, pea, vetch, lupine, buckwheat and others to increase the fertility and the soil structure.
