2014 Barba Cesco Barbera D’Alba Superiore
Although Barbera is typically a medium-bodied wine, extended skin-on maceration and barrel aging amplify the grape in the Barba Cesco Barbera D’Alba Superiore, which comes from the biodynamically farmed, 60-year-old vines from the hills of Piedmont. The wine’s intense, midnight purple hue and roasted berry, spice, and plum aromas beautifully express the potential intensity of Barbera; 20 months of aging in small French oak barrels lend the wine its flavors of black cherry, earth, vanilla, and cedar.

- About The Producer
Elio Filippino comes from a long lineage of winemakers in Piedmont. His biodynamic vineyard practices include harvesting by the moon cycles and using predatory ladybugs to ward off pests. Filippino’s Barba Cesco Barbera D’Alba Superiore holds special favor: the vines were planted by his Uncle Francesco, who taught him how to make wine. Filippino’s practices allow for some of the most intense expression of Barbera in the world.

I was cautious at first with Quigley. I had been buying wines direct, mostly through wine clubs. Being a Californian, I would take wine trips to Sonoma, Paso, Amador, and so forth. Danielle got me to a different place. The wine is always excellent. She started to get me wines from the small family wineries from France, Italy, and Spain. My best moment ever was personally meeting up with one of Quigley’s Bordeaux wineries, Chateau Giubeau.
My Quigley Fine Wines consultant Danielle Faruolo does an outstanding job. She knows the styles that I like to drink and the price points that I will tolerate. She has never let me down.
What I really enjoy and appreciate about working with QUIGLEY FINE WINES is that the wines they offer are unique and rare gets that you won’t find anywhere else and they are truly outstanding wines. I work with Jennifer whom I can trust, never lets me down and who’s knowledge and outgoing personality makes the buying experience fun and enjoyable.
Mike Blatt has been my wine consultant at Quigley Fine Wines for the past 5 years. During that time, he has expanded my palate with his recommendations. I am now enjoying wines from Italy, France, Spain, Australia, and New Zealand because of Mike’s vast knowledge and the fact that he has taken the time to get to know me. He is personable and professional. If you are looking for a wine consultant I highly recommend Mike. You will not be disappointed!
Jennifer Williamson is my wine consultant at Quigley Fine Wines. Jennifer is very knowledgeable and personable. She takes the time to learn what I like and then educates me on things that I haven't tried but would fit my tastes. She has introduced me to several excellent wineries in southern Europe (Italy, Spain, and France) - areas with which I had previously had only limited experience. Jennifer knows what I like and knows my price range. I never feel pressured to purchase if my wine budget is depleted or my credenza is full, but I almost always do because her wine selections are great. I have never been disappointed and I highly recommend Jennifer and QFW to all of my friends.
Bob and I want you to know how much we appreciate Mike Blatt. He calls about every two weeks to see if we need to reorder a favorite wine and to suggest a new wine. Mike knows what we will enjoy and we are always pleased. Thank you for introducing us to Quigley Wines and our friend, Mike Blatt.
I love working with Danielle because she is so enthusiastic and really knows her wines. Over time, she has figured out the wine flavors I like and I really trust her choices. I've enjoyed every sip of wine she has chosen for me and she gets me to try new things. Right now I'm having the best birthday wine ever!
Danielle always recommends great wines. I have enjoyed many of her recommended quality Tuscan wines, in particular. She is fun to visit with on the phone. Quigley is prompt to deliver my orders, and I always look forward to trying the wine in my latest order.
Jennifer Williamson of Quigley Fine Wines is a pure joy to work with – not only does she bring a fun personality to the conversations, but she brings wines that she knows I will like to try.
Great wines at great prices. No nonsense! Love them!
