Brendan’s Visit to Willamette Valley
I recently took a last minute, 22-hour trip to the Willamette Valley to meet up with Jerry Murray and complete the final barrel blends for our 2018 Bluebell Pinot Noir. This year’s Pinots are stunning. The aromatic intensity of the 2018 wines is the best I’ve experienced since we started this project five years ago. We made 14 barrels of wine this year (approximately 335 cases) from three vineyards: Armstrong Vineyard in the Ribbon Ridge AVA, Chehalem Mountain Vineyard in the Chehalem Mountain AVA, and Bednarik Vineyard from the heart of the Willamette Valley AVA. Each property is organically grown and has unique characteristics they lend to the wines. With four new French oak barrels to play with this year (and an abundance of wonderful and concentrated Pinot Noir juice) the challenge wasn’t deciding which blocks to set aside for the Reserve wine, but instead, which barrels or blocks NOT to include in the Reserve!
We can’t wait to taste these wines after they are bottled on September 26th, and we are incredibly excited for our customers to taste them next year when we unleash the 2018 vintages. Cheers!
